ESR fellow from UoI delivered a seminar at the Embassy of the United States in Prague (Office of Naval Research - ONR)

Anne Forney, RADDEL ESR fellow from University Of Ioannina (Greece) gave a seminar on 22nd January 2014 at the Office of Naval Research (ONR) at the Embassy of the United States in Prague (Czech Republic). The title of her talk was:

"Nanocapsules for Targeted Delivery of Radioactivity: Cellular Dosimetry Calculations for Targeted Radionuclides"

Anne's RADDEL project deals with Monte-Carlo radiation transport simulations in order to quantify the energy deposition pattern in carbon nanotubes and targeted cells by different radionuclides.

Congratulations Anne!

Hands-on-school in Spectroscopy applied to materials science (23-24 January 2014, Prague)

On Thursday 23rd - Friday 24th of January 2014, the first RADDEL Hands-on-school in "Spectrocopy applied to materials science" took place at the J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry in Prague (Czech Republic). The school focused on the characterisation of nanomaterials by spectroscopic and spectroelectrochemical techniques, which are very important to monitor purity, filling, functionalisation and electronic properties of CNTs. The school was organised by local partner Dr. Martin Kalbac with the support of Dr. Otakar Frank and RADDEL ESR fellow Ana Santidrián. 3 other RADDEL fellows and 2 PhD students from RADDEL partner ICMAB-CSIC attended the school.

Two ESR fellows from ICMAB-CSIC attended the II Workshop on Nanomedicine UAB-CEI (Barcelona, 08/10/2013)

 Logo II UAB Nanomedicine Workshop

Under the framework of the Campus of International Excellence, Nanomedicine is a priority area of knowledge. In this way, and following last year's success, the UAB-CIE project organised the II Nanomedicine Workshop. The workshop was held on 8th October at the convention centre of the Hotel Campus of Bellaterra (Barcelona). The main strategic goal for this workshop was to foster the trasnference of know-how between researchers in the nanomedicine field in order to promote research and innovation in the field and to enhance the potential of nanotechnology.

Guest speakers included:

Prof. Kostas Kostarelos, University of Manchester (UK),

Prof. Josep Samitier, coordinator of the Spanish Platform on Nanomedicine and researcher at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC),

Dr. Ibane Abasolo, from the Hospital de la Vall d'Hebron,

Dr. Nerea Roher, from the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB),

A poster session was held during the workshop where the two ESR fellows from RADDEL partner ICMAB-CSIC had the chance to present their latest research results and interact with other students and researchers of the scientific community within the campus.

Third RADDEL network meeting; Trieste (Italy) 12-13/09/2013

The third RADDEL network meeting took place on the 12-13th of September 2013 at the University Degli Studi di Trieste (Italy). The meeting was attended by 19 people from 9 different partners, including 9 ESR and 1 ER fellows already working in the project. On Thursday 12th, the network meeting took place in the afternoon session. Gerard Tobias as project coordinator from ICMAB-CSIC gave a small introduction about RADDEL, and then each fellow presented the results obtained in their research projects since the last meeting. Finally, there was a discussion about the scientific aspects of the project and the work to carry out in the next few months. On Friday 13th, the Supervisory Board meeting took place in the morning session, where the scientists-in-charge for the different partner institutions discussed aspects related with the implementation of the project (management, training, dissemination).

Workshop on Emerging Materials; 11th October (Trieste, Italy)

Workshop Emerging Materials UNITS Oct2013

A symposium on "Emerging Materials" will be held on October 11th at University of Trieste (Italy), bringing together experts in various fields of chemistry to show how supramolecular systems, including smarts molecules, conjugated oligomers, inorganic nanostructures and organic-inorganic architectures, form an exceptional class of functional materials. Their tuneable and programmed properties can be the solution in a wide range of applications, ranging from electronic devices and photovoltaic to biotechnology and nanomedicine. The school is organised by RADDEL partner UNITS.

The scientific program includes the following invited speakers:

        -  Alberto Bianco (CNRS, Strasbourg): “Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes: when Chemistry Meets Biology”.

-       -  Kostas Kostarelos (University of Manchester, UK): “Can we Talk About Carbon Nanotubes in Patients' Brains? ”.

-       -  Nazario Martín (Complutense University of Madrid, Spain): “Enantioselective Prato Reaction”.

-       -  Andreas Hirsch (University of Erlangen, Germany): “Chemical Functionalization of Synthetic Carbon Allotropes”.
