Endowing carbon nanotubes with biological and biomedical properties by chemical modifications

Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, 65, 1899-1920 (2013)

This review, a collaboration between RADDEL partners UNITS (Italy) and CNRS (France), deals with the different chemical modifications that are available for carbon nanotubes in order to impart specific properties to this material for biological and medical purposes. Some of the functionalization strategies mentioned in this review are being applied by these two partners in the project in order to improve the biocompatibility of CNTs and increase the capacity to conjugate biologically relevant molecules for the apllication of filled nanocapsules in cancer therapy and imaging.
